One of the funner, but also more miserable runs I've been on with the team; it was raining and cold. Julien thought it would be fun to jump in a puddle with me right behind him. This run took a lot out of me, as the river trail usually does (I have no idea why it does.) Had a little bit of new pain in the posterior part of my knee so I ought to ice and massage that. Thanks to Julien for holding me accountable for finishing strong. Physically, this was a pretty easy workout; Mentally, it was a struggle for the whole team. We had a hard time getting into a certain pace and hitting our ditsances. We also struggled with understanding that the outermore lanes were longer and that if the quicker guys would move to the outside, we could all finish the reps at about the same point. Our tempers were a little short, but I think we all still like each other.

One of my best workouts yet! 28 min. tempo on the ringworm with the bros. Neither of the guys I usually do tempos with were there so I decided to kick it with Mikey. We killed every single 400 split at about 1:37 or a little under. Our 1600 splits were 6:28, 6:32, 6:20 and 6:19. Still a little confusion about the outer lanes so we'll probably ditch that strategy. Overall, this was one of those workouts that opened my eyes on what I'm capable of and that makes me hungry for progress in the future.

Down in Flagstaff with Trilogy for NAU Jazz/Madrigal festival. Performed the Madrigal section today and got a I (that's the highest rating if you didn't know.) Anyway, we knew it was gonna be interesting having a tempo and no track to do it on, but we decided to get out that night and do it anyway. However, to our pleasant surprise, we found a track during our warmup- Coconino High School! All the gates were open so we figured we'd use it. It was actually a super dope track and despite a bit of snow, made for a great workout. I sadly only made it through 20 minutes of the tempo, but there were a couple of factors that could've affected that. Overall not a great workout. One more cool, memorable thing was that we were in a pretty sketchy part of town, and all during our workout, we would keep seeing people or hearing things that put Dallen, Xander and me on edge. Xander went ahead and said a prayer for protection during the workout; when he closed with amen, we all admitted we had felt that we were being watched over by Heavenly Father and the peace that comes with that feeling. I figured I'd put that down in case I ever forgot it and happened to come across it again.

First solid run in a while! This was a sick workout that was a real confidence booster for me! 12x 400m at CV w/ 1 min recovery. My group was looking at 1:26-1:28 pace for each lap. We crushed every one, never going over the 1:28 mark. As for form work, we split the workout into 3 rep sets and worked on a different aspect each set: knee drive, follow through (essentially just kicking your butt), arms, and personal choice to finish.

I cannot explain how good it felt to get this nice run in.

First run I've ever done with my dad (that would explain why it was so slow.) It was a bit more of a sentimental run; we did a lap on my Uncle Paul's old training route from his track days in high school. He called it the Mill Road Loop. It's just about two miles around. I also got to see the house that my mom's family grew up in. Pretty cool event all around.

Had first track meeting with everyone today. Coach talked to us about how we are athletes and that were different from other students, both in the way we conduct and prepare ourselves. This meant a lot to me; it was perhaps a minor rededication.

The past week and a half or so was incredibly terrible. Not because what I was doing wasn't fun, but because all these other things were truly distractions from what I truly love and have set my goals so highly upon. I am finished with these distractions. I am a student and a runner. I will state qualify in the 400m and the 800m, and may everyone that sees this be a witness of it and hold me to this goal. I cannot hold my excitement for the future of my running career. I, personally, and my team will surprise ourselves and others.

Sick, repeat workout that was slightly different from last week's; my group held together strong. 2 sets of 4x 400m w/ 1 min. recovery then 1x 800m w/ equal recovery. 400m time was 1:26-1:28 and 800m time was 2:52-2:56. Good day to run! Huge props to all my bros who killed it in the half; I'm definitely going to take a wing at it next year. Had a really good race in the 5K with a 17:49. I'd never run the course before, and it was pretty quick. Scottie and Brian had good races as well. They're gonna do some big things for PV. After, just did a few loops around my neighborhood. I worked in the 1, 2, 1 set of pickups in, figuring the race pretty much equated to the 3, 1, 3 set. Finally, congrats to my Dad for a 1:53 in the half. Overall awesome day. Took the ACT and was glad to get out to practice to shake the test off. I also learned today that the decathlon is not called the Panther Relays, so I'll fix that on yesterday's post. Today's events were 400 m, high jump and discus. I had mixed emotions going into the 400 because my legs weren't feeling 100%, but I was still excited to run my first one ever and see where I'd be working from throughout the season. I am VERY pleased with my time, 56.73, and it gave me a lot of confidence for working the time down to SQ 51.36. The other two events were alright, jumping 4' 8" and throwing 52' 5". Maybe I'll surprise myself with the hurdles tomorrow.

Big day for me to see where I'd be starting from in the 800m. Ended up with a 2:09.44 and I'm on the edge about it. It's good to know I still have a lot to learn about it, but the one thing that I did learn from my first 800m is that it's hell, both on the mind and body. Julien surprised me and I'm guessing a lot of people in winning the 1500m. His kick was all out and I know he's gonna be surprising more and more people throughout the season. We followed the workout with 2x 800m at CV w/ equal recovery. Great day to be a Panther!

Have Preference today, so Julien, Carson, Mikey and I took it early this morning. Ran to top of Green Springs and flipped for 45 warmup. We then had a 20 min. progressive tempo, starting at easy tempo then working up to usual tempo pace. Well Mikey and I took it pretty quick with 6:23, 6:27 and 6:16 splits; We were supposed to end at 6:30 pace. I honestly never felt very good or got into a groove during this run. Awesome day for me! Had a chill day knowing that I just needed to run the 400 m. I honestly had mixed emotions about what to expect from this race; it was after all my first high school track race. I was marked as about the 4th fastest in my heat with the top guy, my unknown cousin from Enterprise Chandler Staheli, being at about 52 seconds. When the gun sounded, I just ran and didn't hold anything back. I was in second going around the last turn and expecting to see someone come by on my left, but when there was no one, I just figured I'd go beat the guy in front of me. So I did. Won my heat with a 55.15 and missed the finals by 3 spots. Overall, I was very pleased with the results.

SC Invite Day 2

Even better day than yesterday! Congrats to my boi Carson for the State Qual in the 3200 m. As for my events, I did better than I had anticipated. Took 3rd in the 800 m behind my other boi Logan, coming in with a major PR of 2:05:22. This race was a huge eye opener for me on what I'm capable of. it just gave me that much more confidence that I can reach my goal of State Qualifying. Sooo pumped for the rest of the season. Mitch, Dallen, Logan and I then ran the last event of the day, the 4x400 m. We did alright coming in a pretty distant 4th. We were in 3rd going after both mine and Mitch's legs, but, not to bag on Dallen, lost our medal spot during his leg. I'd say he just started it a bit too slow. That's alright though; he knows he's a distance beast. Overall, dope first meet.

It was a really tough day for running. The initial reason was that I had choir at 6:45 this morning, so Dallen, Xander and I had to meet at 4:50 and do the first half of our run before anyone else. The other reason was on the second half of the morning run, as I started the 3 minute pickup, I started to get a rare side-ache. It just kept flaring throughout the duration of the second half. That would explain the slow pace. It's all good though. It's runs like these that make me appreciate when I'm feeling really good. Anyway, the workout was 15 min. warm with last 5 min. at easy tempo. We then jumped into 4x 1200m w/ equal recovery at CV. This was a really tough workout, I'd say, for everyone involved. But championships don't come easily. My group hit each split really well. I think we only had one lap that we got 1:28, but that's just at the slower end of our range. The rest were either right on, or even a few seconds quick. Really proud of my team today. let's go kick some butt this weekend. #wearbrownpantsonfriday

Day 1 I'm running the 400m and the rare 4x800m relay with Logan, Alex and Xander. Today was the first day of the Pine View Invitational. I had two races today: the 400m and the 4x800m relay. The 400 was only alright with a 55.44. I didn't feel very good throughout the race and my finish wasn't like it usually is. The 4x800 was just a little better. We took third behind two good teams, Orem and Timpanogos, but it still wasn't a very quality race on our part. Today was the second day of the Pine View Invitational. It just a bit better than yesterday. Today I had to more races: the 800m and the 4x400m. The 800 felt really good, but the time didn't quite reflect the feeling. I ended up with a 2:06.46 and second on the team behind Alex who ran a heck of a race. The 4x400 didn't go so well. Samson was supposed to be our anchor, but his body wasn't feeling quite up to it, so Parker took his spot. It was going pretty well, until Parker took off too fast to take his handoff and just barely left the exchange zone; We got DQed. I guess it's whatever. Overall, I would say it wasn't a very great meet for me, but I'm definitely gonna change that.

Really solid long run this morning. I felt great the whole time and led the pickups. It was good for to have such a good run coming off a not very good meet. In the afternoon we just did a usual 25 min route, but we got a little rain at the beginning of practice so it was a little wet. Overall, great day for running.

Today was a bucket list day for me. Last week, Coach told me he wanted me to run the 1600m at the JV meet in Cedar, and I said alright. I wasn't too excited just because I didn't feel that the 1600 is my race. Nevertheless, I was going to race my hardest. Well the meet in Cedar got cancelled because the track was covered in snow and Cedar was just not in running conditions. The meet got moved to D-Hills at the last minute, and my race was still on. All throughout the race, I felt really good. I led most of the race and pushed the third lap pretty hard like Coach had instructed us right before. Mikey and Evan, who had really great races, passed me on the fourth lap and I ended up third with a 4:52; this was the first time I had broke 5. What's significant about that is that about a year ago, when I wasn't even someone who ran, I told myself that I wanted to break 5 in a mile sometime in my life, and today I did it. Just something cool. Overall, great day for running.

Tanner was in the same boat as me, so we just did 40 minutes. I guess I'll know for the next youngster meet.

Since I'm going to conference tomorrow, the 400m would be my only event this meet. It wasn't a very good 400m either. I guess you could give some of the time to the wind, but it honestly was not a well run 400m on my part. It honestly hasn't felt the same since Snow Canyon. I don't know what I'll do with the 400m.

I paid for it. This morning run was quite easily the longest, most difficult run I've ever endured; endured is an accurate word for it. Nevertheless, I got through it, even though I was tempted to drop out since we ran right by my house. For afternoon practice, we ran indoors due to the lightning and pouring rain. Running indoors is also always something I have to endure.

Coach Roberts and Coach Holt both said some really important things in the meeting today. From Roberts, I learned to see obstacles as a way to get on higher ground and to look at goals in steps rather than as a whole. From Holt, I was reminded that anyone can make an impact on our team and that I can do amazing things.

Today was my first Panther Relays! I had no idea that other schools came; I figured it was just our own team. Started the meet off with a solid Distance Medley in which I ran the 800m. I'm pretty sure my split was around 2:10 and we definitely went sub 12 minutes. That was pretty good considering we were going just a bit quicker than workout pace. I then had the real race with the 4x800. This was the race that really mattered to PV since Coach made our teams, and the losing team has to buy the winning team donuts. Although my team was not the winning team, I was relieved that were not the losing team. I'm guessing I had another 2:10 split on that. In the final race, the 4x400, I had a really nice 56 second split. That was really big for me since that was a whole second faster than my Hurricane 400 and I wasn't quite going all out. Overall, really nice Panther Relay.

Came to morning practice with the team a little confused because Caroline told some of us that practice was at 6 and that we were doing the workout in the morning. But that was just for the girls. Earlier today, I had mixed emotions about the workout; I was excited to do a tough workout, but I thought I was gonna have to do it on my own because of another commitment. However, I managed to get out of it, and boy am I glad I did. I needed my bros for this one. We started with 3x 1000m at CV(3:35) w/5 min recovery. We hit those maybe a little harder than we should have, coming out 5-10 seconds quick on each of them. Next, we had the important part of the workout with 4x 400m at 1600m pace(1:13) w/2 min recovery. I beat the crap out of those; first repeat was right on and I got faster each time, working down to a 1:10 on the last two. Then to finish it off, 4x 200m at 800m pace(:30) w/2 min recovery. I gained a lot of confidence from these. After coming out 2 seconds slow on the first one, I realized how much I needed to get after the 200's. Crushed the next three with :29, :28, and :28. This was a KILLER workout, but it gave me a lot of confidence that I'll do something incredible this weekend.

We then moved into the workout of 2x 200m, 400m, 800m, 400m, 200m. 200's were at 800m pace, 400's were at 1600m pace, and 800's were at 3200m pace with 2 min recovery between the 200/400 and 400/800, 4 min recovery between 800/400, and 5 min recovery between sets. This workout was actually harder than I anticipated it to be. While, my 200's and 400's were quite good, both of the 800's were sluggish and slow especially on the second lap. I was glad to get through it. I suppose this was just one of those workouts that you gotta get through; I bet everyone has those days. Overall, pretty up and down day for running.

This was the most epic run of all time! Initially, it is because we kicked a ball for the entire run! There were some close calls, but we got from the school back to the school(#kickit). The second reason is after our striders, Dallen threw a jug filled with water off the top of the dungeon as a celebration of our success. When it landed, it flipped up right and we all went nuts. Well I got close enough in about 2 minutes to see that it was the girls team. Disappointed that I would have to do this run on my own, I passed them and kept going. Right when it started in to the major downhill, Julien was in front and I was right behind him, and Coach said, "open it up, J." Well that's like giving freakin cocaine to Hopi Julien; that kid can fly on a trail. I decided to stick with him and it was pretty sketchy, but it was just us two on the majority of the way down. It was a weird morning workout. It was the exact same workout as last Wednesday: 3x 800m at CV, 4x 400m at 3-4 sec faster than 1600m pace, 4x 100m at 400m pace. It felt quite a bit tougher than Wednesday, though. It was probably because I took the 400's even harder: 1:04, 1:06, 1:08 and 1:05. Coach really emphasized this morning about embracing the pain and that it means we're doing the right things. That came at a really good time for me because multiple times during the workout, I thought about cutting the last rep in each set, but he indirectly let me know that I can push through. Overall, really beneficial day.

We had a really good team discussion today. It was mostly about XC coming up and how we're going to reach our potential. I love my team and we're going to do some great things. I am going to hold them accountable and they better do the same for me. The run today was a little blistery and the rain started to pick up when we started our striders.

Pretty dang good first day for PV, unlike the past few meets. The girls got it started off with two more State Qualifiers; Jessica freaking beasted, and Caroline had her kind of race, going out aggressive. So proud of them. Then in the boys 1600, I have never seen Alex run so beautifully in my life. He sure had a lot of balls and a lot of courage in that race, and it showed with his 4:27 SQ. What a beast!! Great day to be a Panther!

Mitch, Dallen, Xander and I did our workout early in the morning at Jordan High school up in Sandy. It was a great morning to run and we witnessed the most beautiful sunrise ever! I had a different workout than the other three. Mine was 2x 300m at 800m pace w/ full recovery. We then all had 4x 200m at F pace w/ full recovery. It was a good workout at a little more altitude. When we got back to the hotel, all the kids were looking at me weird, and I didn't know why. Then I realized they aren't used to me wearing spandex. Oh well.

Shoutout to Robs for making a killer workout. Of course we did this on the river trail. 4x 5 min sets, each decreasing recovery by 1 min (1 min CV, 4 min rec., then 2 min CV, 3 min rec., etc.). It stressed the point of digging at the end of races when we're tired. Well I think we all had to dig deep on the last, 4 min CV set. I sure as heck had to. But it was a quality workout that I pushed through.

Sadly, this was not a great race. Jacob got it started off really well and handed off to Michael who didn't run amazing, but he still had a good leg. Then Colin's 400m was not his best. We were second to last when I got the baton. I don't know why, but I think I checked out mentally at that point. It didn't take long for me to get passed by the Bear River kid, who was actually a really great runner (I think he took 2nd in the open 800m) Not a very good way to end the season, but what a great season it was. PRACTICE STARTS TOMORROW!!!!!! Can't believe it's finally here!!! This past week has been tough because I've just wanted to put down some miles! But I know there will be plenty of time for that this summer. I want to post tonight just to get my personal and team goals written down. This season, I will personally reach these goals:

- Break 11 minutes at the Time Trial on July 25 or 26

- Be consistent point-scorer for the Varsity squad

- Get the plate for my leg at the Desert Relays

- Break 17 minutes within first 3 3 mile races

- Blog every day (even Sundays to review past week and set goals for coming week)

- Hold my teamates accountable (if any of them are reading this, PLEASE do the same for me)

More importantly, as a team, we will reach these goals:

- Beat the Hellians more than they beat us

- Win Desert Relays

- 2017 Utah XC 4A State Champs

- Qualify for Nike Cross Nationals in December

- Finish top-25 nationally

I cannot wait to put in some hard work this season and see the rewards of embracing pain. I know my team will do amazing things this year if we trust Coach, each other, and ourselves. Let's get it done

It's crazy the difference just one day made! I felt wayyy better than yesterday and it was only about 2 or 3 secs slower per mile. It was a half road, half barefoot on grass run. The grass was soaked and it felt really good on my feet. Today was the first day of Kids' Club and it went as expected: eh. I've got the 5-6 boys. There are a surprising number of them that are home-schooled. Overall, decent day.

And that's all it took! I felt really good the rest of the run. Coach took a fall on the way back. He looked like a freaking zombie. After practice, we went to Papa Holt's neighbor's house and helped move a jacuzzi. It was definitely the heaviest thing I've ever been a part of lifting. Somehow, we got the job done. Really good run today! We met at Sullivan Park and did the roller coaster trail along the south base of Shnobe Kibe. I had actually never done it before, but it was pretty fun. About a minute into it, it takes a moment of commitment to get through the constant uphill/downhill change. Once I made the commitment, it got easier. This was also pretty much the first fast run of the season. We finished the run with 4 sub 7 miles. It was good to stick it out with the Boys.

Really good runs for the first week. There were a few I had to work for, but those are the best ones. I really liked Friday's trail/fast run with the boys. Dylan showed promise with his blogging, so I hope he keeps that up. No injuries or anything to worry about

In all honesty, I don't consider today's run to be a great one for me. We had 20 warm, then 25 at 1 min behind 5K pace on the dirt mile. I struggled with it. We had a big pack of guys for 2 miles then we started the fall off. Starting the third lap, I got a bunch of those dry throw-up things going on. I stopped for about a minute to let them stop, then took it the rest of the mile and finished at 20 minutes of the proposed pace. It was alright, but I know I can do more. We met up at Coral Canyon and ran a bit of the half marathon course in reverse. Nothing too crazy, but it was a stronger second half which was nice. I'm heading up this afternoon to a family reunion. It's by Kolob reservoir, so tomorrow's long run will be at some better altitude. Should be good.

Previous week

I had a pretty good workout on Thursday and the rest of my runs were also solid. This was the first week (not counting the first week) that I felt good about every single run. Let this be a sign of times to come. Weights is coming right along, and I can feel myself getting stronger.

This week

It's the summer moritorium week. Coach cut the minutes for this week a bit, so this week ought to be a refresher. That'll be the main purpose of this week. Beast and feast should be fun since I've never done it before. We'll see how it goes.

I'd say it was a quality long run for me. The only tough spot was at about 35 minutes I got some throw up things, but those only lasted a few seconds and I caught back up with the boys. I handled the pickups well and went the full minutes. I'm starting to understand these long run things a little more every week.

Went out with the boys to the Hurricane rim trail. I've had a history of struggling with this trail, so I went in committing to hitting it hard and not dropping out. I did so pretty well. We came back with a negative split and went on the canal trail for a bit. Alex and Julien actually went to whole way down on it, and they said it was sick. I bet we'll do that the next time we're out there. This run was good for getting a little more serious, contrasting a few of the runs during this recovery week. Excited to see the coaches again, but I'll only be to practice Monday and Tuesday because I'm going on a 50 miler with my ward. Oh well.

Previous week

Had a good long run this week and practices fan smoother than expected without coaches. Didn't have weights at all, but I loaded some bales of straw on Wednesday, so that was good. It was a good leg rejuvenator. Rejuvenate her? I hardly know her.

This week

I have no idea what I did to aggravate it, but my Achilles hurt all of a sudden about 8 o'clock on Saturday night, and it's still hurting. I'm gonna pray it'll heal up by the morning. It'll be a limited week for me due to me leaving for a 50 miler on Tuesday after practice. I'll have to make the most of it.

Took our first official crack at the Sandhill today. I hope we continue to do this at least two or three more times this season; I want to get better at this for my team. Got up in 14:00 and down in 8:10 for a 22:10 total. I walked a few times going up. That is what killed me. This workout really exposed my greatest weakness in running and made me realize that if I don't work on it, it's gonna hurt the team. So, from here on out, all of my solo runs are gonna be dedicated to crushing uphills. There are a few by my house that I can use, but I'll probably use the Sandhill a bit. It's all gonna be worth when we're hoisting the trophy.

Woke up this morning and decided to wear my Asics that I haven't worn in a while. They actually felt really good on this run. This run felt like the first quick run we've had in a while, at least that I've been a part of. It felt like a good negative split. I felt really good the first half and had to really push through the second half. I think this was a successful run for me.

I have to admit that I've dropped the ball as of late in the reporting runs department. Obviously the 50 miler could've had something to do with it, but even the last few days, I've felt a little less committed to it. This is one of those times as a runner that I have to recommit to my team and our goals by doing the little, personal things. I will do this.

Had a decently tough workout, at least for me, but I never considered slowing or dropping out; I knew I was gonna get through it efficiently. We had 1 set of 6x60 sec.(first 3 at tempo, next 3 at threshold); 2 sets of 5x30 sec. at CV; 1 set of 6x60 sec.(first 3 at threshold, next 3 at tempo.) The recoveries were equal following reps and about 2 minutes between sets. We didn't have an assigned speed for each pace, probably because we were supposed to get to know the speed just by feel. We struggled with this, either going a little faster or slower than we should've. I'm sure we'll get better though. I'd say it was a quality workout. Afternoon was another post-weights 20. Had a really good lifting session today. I'd say I really got after it.

I've got to trust the training I'm going through and that it'll set me up for success. It was a very wet, usual Tuesday run. It poured all through the night and kept going all through our run and epic game of ultimate. There were a lot of dope wipeouts, but Decker and Coach had the best one, where Decker just went down right in front of Coach and swept his legs out from under him. I hope I never forget that moment. AM over 59:40; 7:15 pace; randomized pace workout

PM over 30:05; 9:54 pace

Had our second pace workout, and I must say, it was quite a bit easier than the last one. It was a really fun format, though. It was 3 sets of 5 reps, but we drew cards to determine what the reps would be. The sets were as follows: CV, CV, T, Th, T; Th, CV, Th, T, Th; T, Th, Th, T, CV. The level 2's and 3's then had one more set of 3- Th, CV, CV. It was all equal recovery between reps and 1 min. between sets. It really wasn't too challenging, but it also just felt a lot smoother than the last one. Maybe I just got the hang of it a bit more. As for the afternoon run, I kept my promise of doing a hilly run. I went by my house up a super steep hill, and once I got up on top, the trail was also pretty up and down. At first I thought it would be a super dope trail, but all along the top there were these flying ant things that were super annoying. So I don't think I'll recommend this to my teammates. I didn't realize how steep the main hill was until I was going down and fell a few times. I never stopped running on the way up, so even though the pace was pretty slow, I consider this run to be a success. Good day to run

Not that we took it super hard, but it still felt great. The reason why we had a third run was coach decided to let us do our run for tomorrow during the middle of the night so we could sleep in. It was a super dope run and we had some really great conversations.

We had a team meeting, discussing first our goals as a team, then our individual fears. It went really well, and I learned a lot about my teammates. It really opened my eyes about how much commitment it was gonna take from each of us. I'm ready. Boys, are you?

Really, really good long run for me. We did Suicidal Tendencies out in Santa Clara. I had only done the trail one other time before this, and I ran it much better this time around. The overall pace was pretty quick, I thought, for a trail run. We just kept pushing right along. Overall, good day to run.

My running hasn't been at it's potential as of late, and I'm realizing that that can definitely be traced back to my enormous lack of blogging. There are other things for sure and even bigger things that are having an effect, but this needs to be more of a priority; it's a way for me to hold myself accountable every single day. At renegade camp, we all committed to the goals knowing that it would affect every part of our life. For my team, I need to take this moment of recommitment to do everything right; workouts, blogging, sleep, drinking water, eating properly, stretching and representing the team in everything I do. I'm sorry, brothers, for dropping the ball. It won't happen again. But next time, call me out. I need the help.

Going into the race, I was unnecessarily nervous; I felt like throwing up. I raced anyway. I don't know what it is, but racing ain't what it used to be for me. None of my races have felt very good at all since the time trial. I'm really really trying to tell myself that I'm putting in the time and work for it to pay off on the course, but it just hasn't yet. It's really frustrating, but perhaps this is just one of those trials for me that I need to endure and trust in God's timing. Coach Robs said something to me after the race that helped quite a bit. He told me to stop focusing on what I need to be for the team, and remember the things that I already bring to the team that makes us better. I'll give that a try for the next little bit. Congrats to Scottie for another killer race! He is the gutsiest guy I know and we all need to learn from him. Keep working hard, Scott!

I think I'm gonna go into Murray a little pissed off instead of nervous. That'll help me go for every moment that there's a chance for doubt.

Weights was rough today because the girls basketball team decided to hop in the weight room with us. Shout out to Corbin for taking Coach B's crap and dropping the squat bar. The afternoon run was way dope. We made our way to the Washington Parks Department and meandered around up there. I found a soccer ball there and we kicked it on the rest of our run. Alex even took it with him on his 200's. It was a pretty good bonding run. Excited to race tomorrow!!

Well I went into the race really excited and pretty confident. But it wasn't a good race. I can't really say I felt bad or anything. As hard as it is to say, I just did not step up. What am I gonna start doing when it starts to hurt? I've gotta make a plan. I'm glad my teammates had really good races. I'm gonna learn from this race, but it isn't gonna ruin my next race or the rest of my season.

Crazy storm this morning so none of us got to run after weights. In the afternoon, we had to wait a bit for the storm to blow over, so coach had us do some ab work as a team. It was a tough little workout to be totally honest, but I'm sure I would get better at it with a few more tries. We just did a chill run down River Rd. followed with some striders. Pretty good day to run.

Morning run felt really good. I told the guys about my weird dream last night. Did plyos for the first time this season and followed it up with the usual yoga session with Fiji. We did the same workout today that we did, I think, two weeks ago. I'd say I did a little better than the last time. I really really pushed the middle. That's where bad races have gotten me, so I decided to focus on that. However, my finish wasn't what it should have been. Always things to work on. That's the beautiful thing about running: no matter who you are or what you've done, you can work on certain things to "make weak things become strong" (Ether 12:27).

Usual morning run this morning, but a slim crew. We followed with some plyos. As for the workout in the afternoon, I’d say it was my best workout of the season. I stuck it with the boys every rep. It was freakin tough, but when it got hard, I pictured that course up in Sugarhouse Park; that helped a lot. It reminds me a lot of the quote I chose on Monday: “Faith in the endgame helps you live through the months or years of buildup.” This will be a workout I can look back on during my struggles.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 235; Bench 3x5 of 115; Thrust 3x5 of 115

One of the quicker 25 minute runs with some yoga after. The afternoon run was pretty dang tough actually. We took it down into the fields and it’s always fast running down there. Had a really good pace throughout and actually went a little further than we should’ve. I got a side ache alon the way back after a bathroom stop. It’s all good though.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- when Evan and Jose put the sticky notes on Carson’s truck and spelled “ur gay”

Nearly overslept, but woke up miraculously. The workout was just a bit tougher than I thought it would be. But it still wasn’t too bad. There was one moment that my legs felt like the Dixie 800, but it didn’t last, so that was good. My hands were pretty cold.

Excellent, excellent morning run. It was probably my best long run ever. We took it hard on the way back. There were a few times when I thought stopping would be nice and a good idea, but I knew I’d feel better with myself if I persisted, so that’s what I did. Afternoon was a good grass run where we focused on better form. We learned a lot of good things.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “You’re probably thinking, ‘I could live without this information.’”

Very productive session on weights this morning after I started out not being able to find clamps. The afternoon run was a Green Springs loop in which I was very satisfied with how I felt. That’s really all in the running department.

Super cold this morning, but still a good run. Workout in the afternoon and this was an excellent workout for me. I kept the pace very well and even pushed it at times, my form was pretty good, I think, for the most part, and I kept going when I was exhausted. Felt great to have a solid workout from beginning to end.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “I had a really bad day. I injured people and I drank soap.”

Ran before a killer weights session. Squats felt especially good. Afternoon was alright since we did one of my favorite routes. Good day to run.

We’ve got the XC banquet tonight and I’m just realizing that I’m a senior. I’m not gonna cry or anything like that, but I’ll just say I made the right decision to become a runner. It’s been amazing so far thanks to my best friends and great coaches. I’ve loved every minute and I’m only going to get better as a runner and as a person.

Went and helped with Alex’s current issues project. We did some good work on mustang pass. It was pretty tough, but not as hard as running with a shovel. Jose said running with the tools probably made up for the rest of our time, so I believed him.

Good day of running. Excellent morning run, but on the colder side. We did the parkway loop. Afternoon was some good barefoot grass as usual. I just feel really fresh and ready to kill it at Nike. I’m also ready to shave my mustache.

While I’m on the subject of doing good, I’ll make a declaration: I am a runner. I will also be a great runner. Everything that I do athletically will be based around that, no matter what others want me to do or what I’ve done in the past. I am a runner.

No weights this morning, just a run. Afternoon wasn’t amazing, but also wasn’t awful. The workout was much harder than I imagined it would be. I held it really well on the first 4 reps and even did pretty well on the 5th. But I had to really grind just to finish the last, 4 minute rep. We did this same workout, just a little shorter, right before state this last track season, and it was just as tough then. Coach Robs told us to express something to another teammate what they bring to the team. I told Logan he was the foundation of the team. I would also have to tell Carson that he’s the one we look to for strength, and Alex steps up when we need him most.

“Hard isn’t bad. It’s just hard.”

Ran on my lonesome this morning for trilogy. Afternoon was a super chill, hilarious shoe run. Alex went to place our gift on the Ellsworth’s porch and Brother Ellsworth, my seminary teacher, must’ve heard us coming because he flew through the door right as Alex was placing the gift. He got the crap scared out of him. I’m pumped to head out tomorrow. It’s gonna be a dope trip with some excellent racing.

First time in a long time both runs were under 7 minute pace. It was finally chilly for the afternoon run. It was actually a pretty tough run with some hill repeats. We did them on the gravel hill on the south side of Telegraph, down by Family Dollar. I think I’m going to start my break after the dream mile tomorrow, because I’m not going to footlocker.

Nice cold morning run today, and the last of my senior XC season. Today was a great way to end my year, and a pretty dang good transition into track. Ended up with a 4:49, 4 or so seconds behind my good bud Carson. I’m gonna break this record.

Tonight, I became the newest Eagle Scout of America. Very glad I made this push, and it was worth it.

Freaking freezing this morning! My face was quite numb. Other than that, the run was alright. Just Cars and me on the Foremaster loop. I got pretty winded on the last little bit of the hill, but I persisted nonetheless. I took it in a little early though because I had felt a little something in my left hamstring. This was my first run on something new shoes and they feel fast as f. Excited to get some track workouts in them.

Really good run this morning. Went a little later to avoid the cold and it was definitely the right choice. Cars and I took it down Red Cliffs drive and flipped. The fartleks were pretty good, but the last one I had to dig just a bit. We did the right smack in the middle of the run. We had a pretty fast finish, which got me into the mode of track racing. I’m really looking forward to the death run.

This run turned out pretty well even I’m feeling pretty sick with a cold and my stomach was feeling off. I did only do 10 minutes of tempo, but that’s not really a problem; I got the benefit from it. It was Cars, Michael and me on a Green Springs loop. Right in the middle of the afternoon and the temperature was perfect.
