It was good. The workout in the afternoon was pretty tough. I can't really say it was a good workout for me, but there were quality moments. My third rep, (4 mins.) I stuck it out much better than the first two, and that energy carried into the last one a bit. It was really hot and it seemed to affect our pace. It's all good though.
Wed, 16 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 15, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-15-2017.html
AM over 15:00; 7:19 pace

PM over 55:00; 7:33 pace

Felt nice on both runs today, but neither were hard at all. Morning was a quick 15 after weights with a sub 7 second mile. Afternoon was a reverse shoe run up into Dogtown. Nothing too special today.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 235; Bench 3x5 of 105; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 185
Tue, 15 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 14, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-14-2017.html
AM over 1:26:05; 7:26 pace

PM over 25:00; 7:20 pace

I was almost late to morning practice, but I made it. It was a decent long run overall. I felt really good for the first 50, and I had to push quite a bit until 65 or so. I fell off the lead group at that time and chilled it a little back to the high school. There were little successes when I would push through a doubt. But I've got more long runs to learn and improve from. Afternoon was good. It felt really slow, but the pace said somewhat otherwise. Great day to be a Panther.
Mon, 14 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 11, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-11-2017.html
AM over 44:54; 7:27 pace

PM over 44:50; 10:55 pace

PM/AM over 1:10:00; 9:58 pace

First ever triple! Such a sick day of running with the bros. Delano peak was freaking epic; it was the most beautiful place I've ever been. I honestly felt really good throughout the whole run. Not that we took it super hard, but it still felt great. The reason why we had a third run was coach decided to let us do our run for tomorrow during the middle of the night so we could sleep in. It was a super dope run and we had some really great conversations.

We had a team meeting, discussing first our goals as a team, then our individual fears. It went really well, and I learned a lot about my teammates. It really opened my eyes about how much commitment it was gonna take from each of us. I'm ready. Boys, are you?
Fri, 11 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 10, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-10-2017.html
AM over 50:00; 7:19 pace

AM over 29:00; 7:40 pace

Did a nice Green Springs loop. Carson was feeling pretty sick, so it was weird to have a lot of the run without him. We had a pretty dang good negative split if you ask me. Afternoon was just 20 post-weights. Pretty nice day of running.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 225; Bench 3x5 of 100; Thrust 3x5 of 95; Deadlift 3x5 of 185
Thu, 10 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 09, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-09-2017.html
AM over 59:39; 7:29 pace

PM Cedar All-comers

First official race of the season. It honestly didn't go super well for me. As a team, we did pretty good (even though there were a few of us that had bad races.) We came out with the W. As for me, I think my problem was that I never got very comfortable with the pain of the race. It wasn't unbearable, but I never accepted it and excelled through it. Next race, I've got to be more aggressive.
Wed, 09 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 08, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-08-2017.html
AM over 30:00; 8x striders

PM over 20:00

My watch was wack today and my runs are incorrect. It was a good day, nevertheless. Last day of kids club and my boys raced really well. I raced the last lap with Bryan; he's quite the beast. Had a nice reverse DI loop after a dope lifting session.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 225; Bench 3x5 95; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 165
Tue, 08 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 07, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-07-2017.html
AM over 1:21:21; 7:05 pace; 2x10 min tempo w/5 min recovery between

PM over 24:57; 7:04 pace

Pretty decent workout with the boys. It was definitely hard, especially the second rep, but I pushed myself and made it through. Definitely one of my better long runs. In the afternoon, I just did a quick paced run around dogtown. It was a good day of running.
Mon, 07 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Aug 05, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-05-2017.html
PM over 52:20; 7:52 pace

I went to the temple this morning, so I didn't do Temple Quarry with the boys. I decided to run Mustang Pass in the afternoon. The whole run, I was feeling great and pushing a good trail pace. Unfortunately, I was running down a wash and caught the wrong edge of a rock; I sprained my ankle and immediately knew I was gonna have to walk back to my truck. It's very painful at the moment, so I'll have to ice it and see how it feels by Monday.
Sat, 05 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 04, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-04-2017.html
AM over 1:00:00; 8:19 pace; 6x striders

Did Chuckwalla with Dylan, Josh, and Scottie. Dylan and I kept a good pace for the whole way. On the way back, we passed some hikers and they asked us if we ran for a team. I felt an overwhelming amount of pride in telling them that we were Pine View Panthers. So pumped to get to work!
Fri, 04 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 03, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-03-2017.html
AM over 1:05:00; 8:07 pace

I'm not sure of the exact time or distance due to my watch battery being low. But nevertheless, this run was a killer. Non-stop hill on the second half. However, I had a lot of personal successes along the way. I would make goals as I went up the hills (which is definitely my roughest area of running) and I accomplished them all. I've got a long way to go, but I'm going.
Thu, 03 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 02, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-02-2017.html
AM over 1:29:54; 8:52 pace

PM over 25:00; 8:56 pace

Honestly, I felt like a real wuss this morning. It's not because of how I ran or felt when I was running, but it was when the other guys came back 10 minutes after me and told me how far they had gone. I was absolutely blown away. Mad respect for how they pushed on that trail. Afternoon was just another chill 25.

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 01, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-01-2017.html
AM over 25:01; 8:52 pace

PM over 1:08:22; 7:36 pace; 4, 5, 4, 5, 4 min fartleks w/equal recovery

Woke up to find out we had a butt-ton of planks. Started the day with 6 minutes and spaced them throughout the rest of the day. Just a super chill trail run in the morning. In the afternoon, we had a super tough workout at Navajo lake. I pushed hard with the lead guys for the first and last rep, and I took a slower pace on the middle three. We all really felt the altitude, but it was good to push through with the boys.
Tue, 01 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 31, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-31-2017.html
AM Time Trial

PM over 24:49; 8:25 pace

Well I reached one of my personal goals by breaking 11 at the time trial. I really ran my race by not getting antsy and finishing tough. Came in 5th right behind Logan. I'm very pleased, but not content. We made it up to high altitude camp this afternoon and had a little afternoon run. Felt good.
Mon, 31 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Jul 29, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-29-2017.html
AM over 1:05:41; 7:45 pace; 8x striders

I took up Coach's offer to take the lower minutes today if we were feeling beat from yesterday. Went out to the Strip and ran down a road and flipped. Alex pointed out a man standing on a plateau, but Carson thought it was a pile of rocks. The rest of us voted with Alex. Good day to run
Sat, 29 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Jul 28, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-28-2017.html
AM over 1:40:00; 7:18 pace

Today was a huge success. This was my longest training run ever, and I made it the whole 100 minutes. We kept a good pace for the whole run. I'm really happy with how I ran today, and I know this is gonna help the team.
Fri, 28 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Jul 27, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-27-2017.html
AM over 1:00:00; 7:35 pace

PM over 20:00; 7:24 pace

I felt really good about today's run, especially the second half. We headed into the desert and made our way onto the Dino Cliffs trail. We then made our way onto the end of Prospector(hardly know her) and over by Maverik. We had to kind of meander(hardly know her) to get in the full minutes, but we got it done. The post-weights run was crazy hot. Overall, really great day.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 115; Bench 3x5 of 105; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 175

I'm feeling ready for the long run tomorrow. I just have a feeling it's gonna be my day to break through a barrier. I'm getting to bed really early, preparing to crush this run.
Thu, 27 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Jul 26, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-26-2017.html
AM over 59:40; 7:15 pace; randomized pace workout

PM over 30:05; 9:54 pace

Had our second pace workout, and I must say, it was quite a bit easier than the last one. It was a really fun format, though. It was 3 sets of 5 reps, but we drew cards to determine what the reps would be. The sets were as follows: CV, CV, T, Th, T; Th, CV, Th, T, Th; T, Th, Th, T, CV. The level 2's and 3's then had one more set of 3- Th, CV, CV. It was all equal recovery between reps and 1 min. between sets. It really wasn't too challenging, but it also just felt a lot smoother than the last one. Maybe I just got the hang of it a bit more. As for the afternoon run, I kept my promise of doing a hilly run. I went by my house up a super steep hill, and once I got up on top, the trail was also pretty up and down. At first I thought it would be a super dope trail, but all along the top there were these flying ant things that were super annoying. So I don't think I'll recommend this to my teammates. I didn't realize how steep the main hill was until I was going down and fell a few times. I never stopped running on the way up, so even though the pace was pretty slow, I consider this run to be a success. Good day to run
Wed, 26 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Jul 25, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-25-2017.html
AM over 48:40; 7:32 pace; 8x striders

PM over 20:00; 7:31 pace

It was a very wet, usual Tuesday run. It poured all through the night and kept going all through our run and epic game of ultimate. There were a lot of dope wipeouts, but Decker and Coach had the best one, where Decker just went down right in front of Coach and swept his legs out from under him. I hope I never forget that moment. The weather cleared up by the time we ran after weights. Overall, good, chill day of running.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 205; Bench 3x5 of 100; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 165
Tue, 25 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 24, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-24-2017.html
AM over 1:00:00; who knows what pace

Really fun over nighter with my bros, but I did not perform in today's race. We weren't even really going fast anyway, but I personally just didn't finish it like I needed to. It's mental for sure. I've got to trust the training I'm going through and that it'll set me up for success. I've also got to get into a groove of embracing pain like I did the end of Cross last year and all through track. I love the pain.
Mon, 24 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Jul 22, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-22-2017.html
AM over 1:20:00; 8:30 pace

Went on a solo run on the Hurricane rim trail. I went a lot further than I ever had before. Turns out, I was missing the coolest part of the trail! I ran into my bro Mikey on the way back. I was supposed to wait for him, but I just didn't for some reason. My bad Mikey. But I'm glad I did this on my own. I really conquered this trail mentally. It was a good day to run.
Sat, 22 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Jul 21, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-21-2017.html
AM over 59:24; 7:34 pace; 8x striders

Ran the marathon course in reverse from Vernon Worthen. I held my own really well today. The grass was a perfect temperature during the striders, making them more pleasant than usual. Overall, good day of running.
Fri, 21 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Jul 20, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-20-2017.html
AM over 1:00:13; 7:06 pace; pace workout

PM over 20:00; 7:31 pace

Had a decently tough workout, at least for me, but I never considered slowing or dropping out; I knew I was gonna get through it efficiently. We had 1 set of 6x60 sec.(first 3 at tempo, next 3 at threshold); 2 sets of 5x30 sec. at CV; 1 set of 6x60 sec.(first 3 at threshold, next 3 at tempo.) The recoveries were equal following reps and about 2 minutes between sets. We didn't have an assigned speed for each pace, probably because we were supposed to get to know the speed just by feel. We struggled with this, either going a little faster or slower than we should've. I'm sure we'll get better though. I'd say it was a quality workout. Afternoon was another post-weights 20. Had a really good lifting session today. I'd say I really got after it.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 195; Bench 3x5 of 100; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 155
Thu, 20 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Jul 19, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-19-2017.html
AM over 1:16:19; 7:11 pace

Woke up this morning and decided to wear my Asics that I haven't worn in a while. They actually felt really good on this run. This run felt like the first quick run we've had in a while, at least that I've been a part of. It felt like a good negative split. I felt really good the first half and had to really push through the second half. I think this was a successful run for me.

I have to admit that I've dropped the ball as of late in the reporting runs department. Obviously the 50 miler could've had something to do with it, but even the last few days, I've felt a little less committed to it. This is one of those times as a runner that I have to recommit to my team and our goals by doing the little, personal things. I will do this.
Wed, 19 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Jul 18, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-18-2017.html
AM over 42:58; 7:33 pace; 8x striders

PM over 20:01; 7:41 pace

Usual grass Tuesday before kids club, but we cut our minutes by a bit. I struggled through the striders just a bit, but I'm glad I pushed the speed. In the afternoon, we did 20 on the morning route following weights. I flipped us at 10:12, and coach threatened to punch one of my kidneys if we got back early and to punch the other kidney if he passed me. I felt the pressure on the second half.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 185; Bench 3x5 of 95; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 145
Tue, 18 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 17, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-17-2017.html
AM over 1:24:46; 8:37 pace; Sandhill

Took our first official crack at the Sandhill today. I hope we continue to do this at least two or three more times this season; I want to get better at this for my team. Got up in 14:00 and down in 8:10 for a 22:10 total. I walked a few times going up. That is what killed me. This workout really exposed my greatest weakness in running and made me realize that if I don't work on it, it's gonna hurt the team. So, from here on out, all of my solo runs are gonna be dedicated to crushing uphills. There are a few by my house that I can use, but I'll probably use the Sandhill a bit. It's all gonna be worth when we're hoisting the trophy.
Mon, 17 Jul 2017 06:00:00
