Today was a great way to end my year, and a pretty dang good transition into track. Ended up with a 4:49, 4 or so seconds behind my good bud Carson. I’m gonna break this record.

Tonight, I became the newest Eagle Scout of America. Very glad I made this push, and it was worth it.
Tue, 21 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Nov 20, 2017
AM over 24:13; 6:52 pace

PM over 58:35; 6:58 pace

First time in a long time both runs were under 7 minute pace. It was finally chilly for the afternoon run. It was actually a pretty tough run with some hill repeats. We did them on the gravel hill on the south side of Telegraph, down by Family Dollar. I think I’m going to start my break after the dream mile tomorrow, because I’m not going to footlocker.
Mon, 20 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Nov 16, 2017
AM over 15:00; 7:05 pace

PM over 28:00; 7:36 pace

Two good runs today. We left for Nike at lunch and it was a pretty good drive. I had a grand slamwich at Denny’s and fulfilled a dream I’ve always had. It was a really good day with a really good end. I’m glad I’ve gotten so consistent in blogging.

#worthit
Thu, 16 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Nov 15, 2017
AM over 14:57; 7:04 pace

PM over 42:59; 7:46 pace; 4x striders

Ran on my lonesome this morning for trilogy. Afternoon was a super chill, hilarious shoe run. Alex went to place our gift on the Ellsworth’s porch and Brother Ellsworth, my seminary teacher, must’ve heard us coming because he flew through the door right as Alex was placing the gift. He got the crap scared out of him. I’m pumped to head out tomorrow. It’s gonna be a dope trip with some excellent racing.

#4thehug
Wed, 15 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Nov 14, 2017
AM over 14:57; 7:05 pace

PM over 51:50; 7:00ish pace; fartleks

No weights this morning, just a run. Afternoon wasn’t amazing, but also wasn’t awful. The workout was much harder than I imagined it would be. I held it really well on the first 4 reps and even did pretty well on the 5th. But I had to really grind just to finish the last, 4 minute rep. We did this same workout, just a little shorter, right before state this last track season, and it was just as tough then. Coach Robs told us to express something to another teammate what they bring to the team. I told Logan he was the foundation of the team. I would also have to tell Carson that he’s the one we look to for strength, and Alex steps up when we need him most.

“Hard isn’t bad. It’s just hard.”

#4thehug
Tue, 14 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Nov 13, 2017
AM over 59:38; 7:02 pace

PM over 20:00; 7:07 pace

Good day of running. Excellent morning run, but on the colder side. We did the parkway loop. Afternoon was some good barefoot grass as usual. I just feel really fresh and ready to kill it at Nike. I’m also ready to shave my mustache.

While I’m on the subject of doing good, I’ll make a declaration: I am a runner. I will also be a great runner. Everything that I do athletically will be based around that, no matter what others want me to do or what I’ve done in the past. I am a runner.

#4thehug

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Nov 11, 2017
AM over 33:30; slow pace

Went and helped with Alex’s current issues project. We did some good work on mustang pass. It was pretty tough, but not as hard as running with a shovel. Jose said running with the tools probably made up for the rest of our time, so I believed him.

#4thehug
Sat, 11 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Nov 10, 2017
AM over 24:36; 7:03 pace

PM over 1:03:24; 7:09 pace/ over 7:07; 7:01 pace

Solid morning featuring a run, plyos and yoga. However, the afternoon was a tough one for me. Had some bowel troubles for the second day in a row. It’s all good though. Did Logan’s fun run in the dark. It was ight.

#4thehug
Fri, 10 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Nov 09, 2017
AM over 14:31; 6:53 pace

PM over 54:39; 7:19 pace

Ran before a killer weights session. Squats felt especially good. Afternoon was alright since we did one of my favorite routes. Good day to run.

We’ve got the XC banquet tonight and I’m just realizing that I’m a senior. I’m not gonna cry or anything like that, but I’ll just say I made the right decision to become a runner. It’s been amazing so far thanks to my best friends and great coaches. I’ve loved every minute and I’m only going to get better as a runner and as a person.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 245; Bench 3x5 of 120; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 185

#4thehug
Thu, 09 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Nov 08, 2017
AM over 24:25; 7:10 pace

PM over 59:27; 6:45ish pace; 5x3:20 at 5k w/ 3 min recovery

Super cold this morning, but still a good run. Workout in the afternoon and this was an excellent workout for me. I kept the pace very well and even pushed it at times, my form was pretty good, I think, for the most part, and I kept going when I was exhausted. Felt great to have a solid workout from beginning to end.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “I had a really bad day. I injured people and I drank soap.”

#4thehug

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Nov 07, 2017
AM over 14:46; 7:16 pace

PM over 54:43; 7:08 pace

Very productive session on weights this morning after I started out not being able to find clamps. The afternoon run was a Green Springs loop in which I was very satisfied with how I felt. That’s really all in the running department.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 245; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 185

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “It could’ve been worse. It was probably my best long run ever. We took it hard on the way back. There were a few times when I thought stopping would be nice and a good idea, but I knew I’d feel better with myself if I persisted, so that’s what I did. Afternoon was a good grass run where we focused on better form. We learned a lot of good things.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “You’re probably thinking, ‘I could live without this information.’”

#4thehug
Mon, 06 Nov 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Nov 04, 2017
AM over 1:01:37; 7:05ish pace

Nearly overslept, but woke up miraculously. The workout was just a bit tougher than I thought it would be. But it still wasn’t too bad. There was one moment that my legs felt like the Dixie 800, but it didn’t last, so that was good. My hands were pretty cold.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “What happened to my storm trooper?”

#4thehug
Sat, 04 Nov 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Nov 03, 2017
AM over 24:47; 7:00 pace

PM over 1:15:00; 7:05 pace

One of the quicker 25 minute runs with some yoga after. The afternoon run was pretty dang tough actually. We took it down into the fields and it’s always fast running down there. Had a really good pace throughout and actually went a little further than we should’ve. I got a side ache alon the way back after a bathroom stop. It’s all good though.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- when Evan and Jose put the sticky notes on Carson’s truck and spelled “ur gay”

#4thehug
Fri, 03 Nov 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Nov 02, 2017
AM over 15:00; 7:22

PM PV Autumn Classic

I was super tired at school today. But I was excited for the race today. It was my first 3200, and it was pretty alright. I could’ve ran a pretty good mile. I started to feel it into the 5th lap, so that’s where I’ll have to learn to push. Got me excited for track.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 235; Bench 3x5 of 115; Thrust 3x5 of 115

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “Matthew bean-dipped me during our race.”

#4thehug
Thu, 02 Nov 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Nov 01, 2017
AM over 24:46; 7:17 pace

PM over 1:01:44; 7:49 pace; 6x striders

Felt really good in the morning. Also felt good in the afternoon, but we did go pretty slow. It’s alright though; I think it was needed. We did the classic kick-it route. It was nice to see the girls at Forest Park, but Jacey got herself a nice, deep cut on some barbed wire. It was actually pretty dope.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “You know what they say about guys with big water bottles? Big hydration.” Also “I think that’s muscle.”

#4thehug
Wed, 01 Nov 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Oct 31, 2017
AM over 14:50; 7:15 pace

PM over 18:33; good pace

Today is my least favorite day of the year, but I’m the Halloween run champ, so that makes up for it. I took it quick from the very beginning and no one was ever really close to me. Great redemption from last year. I’m actually pretty happy about this.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 235; Bench 3x5 of 115; Thrust 3x5 of 115

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “You should put a long, plastic bag over your costume.”

#4thehug
Tue, 31 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Oct 30, 2017
AM over 1:20:29; 7:10 pace

PM over 34:46; 7:22 pace

As for the running part, pretty good long run. We did a classic parkway loop. But I had to stop to use the bathroom at about 54, and it just kind of messed with my abdomen. I probably definitely could’ve gone another 10 to go the max, but I think I fulfilled the purpose of the run. Afternoon was longer than the usual Monday afternoon, but we still got some barefoot, grass time in. I’m really glad that my legs (quads specially) aren’t feeling sore anymore. Hopefully I’ll be able to do a bit more leg work for weights tomorrow.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “Have you seen this before?” “Helen Keller hasn’t.”

#4thehug
Mon, 30 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Oct 27, 2017
AM over 25:00; 7:06

PM over 1:16:27; 7:07 pace

Hecka hard day- plyos, yoga and long run with hills. This whole week has been pretty tough so I’m looking forward to Sunday (like always). That’s all for today.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “We gotta score one more time.”

#4thehug
Fri, 27 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Oct 26, 2017
AM over 14:35; 7:17 pace

PM over 54:30; 7:18 pace; 6x striders

Weights was a bit tough this morning because my pecs and quads are pretty sore. Afternoon was a nice reverse shoe run. I found a bag of lifesaver gummies and, honestly, I thought they were fine. But coach disagreed, so he took them and chucked them and Dylan kicked them down a sewer. I was just a little ticked off. Oh well. We’ve got a long run tomorrow, so I’ll need to be prepared for that.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 225; Bench 3x5 of 115; Thrust 3x5 of 115; Calf raises 3x5 of 70

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “That’s the funniest bullying I’ve seen all day.”

#4thehug
Thu, 26 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Oct 25, 2017
AM over 24:38; 7:10 pace

PM over 1:06:13; 7:05ish pace

Pretty physically stressful day. Morning run with plyos then a really tough workout on grass in the afternoon. 7x 3 min at M shape rotation of 3, 5, and 8k pace, all w/ equal recovery. First three were pretty dang good, but I really, really had to struggle in the second half, especially the last two reps. Thought about quitting numerous times, but didn’t; I’m really glad I stuck in there. It’ll let my body know it needs to get down to business, and the postseason isn’t a time to relax. Good day to run

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “I learned that Demi Lovato was addicted to cocaine while she was filming Camp Rock.”

#4thehug
Wed, 25 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Oct 24, 2017
AM over 15:00; 7:30 pace

PM over 54:34; 7:20 pace

Weights for the first time in a bit felt rather nice, especially the bench, which is always my toughest lift. Afternoon was blazing hot, but still a nice run with some sand. It was also pretty hilly, and it felt great to go strong up some longer hills. Clutch day of running and I’m looking forward to a strong workout tomorrow.

Weights- Squat 3x5 of 225; Bench 3x5 of 115; Deadlift 3x5 of 155

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “Have you ever had a dream where you just whe a an you y you co could you ju y y you just and an yu you a an and you could just do anything you wanted?”

#4thehug
Tue, 24 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Oct 23, 2017
AM over 1:09:37; 7:17 pace

PM over 25:00; 7:14 pace

The morning run wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t that great either. I was having some discomfort in my stomach and a bit in my chest as well. I made the most of it though and pushed through some exhaustion. Afternoon grass was nice on the softball field. They’ve done some good things with that grass. Good day of running today. Keep Carson in your prayers because he wrecked his back, butt and ankle. At least it wasn’t a toothache.

Funny Thing I Heard Today- “Kill’em with kindness.” “No. Kill them with a gun.”

#4thehug
Mon, 23 Oct 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Oct 21, 2017
Really, really sucky day. Worst overall day of my entire hunting career. Saw two deer all day and they were both does. This unit straight up sucks. If you ever put in for Colorado deer, I do not recommend unit 30. My dad and I decided to head home tomorrow, so I’m going home empty-handed (except for the two sheds I picked up.)

#4thehug
Sat, 21 Oct 2017 06:00:00
