In the afternoon, it was raining pretty good for a minute or two and actually pretty cold, but it blew over by the time Coach was finished telling us some meet info. Did the shoe run and caressed the Eagle's beak. Tomorrow is the first day of the Pine View invitational; I'm pretty dang excited. Day 1 I'm running the 400m and the rare 4x800m relay with Logan, Alex and Xander. Should be a good race and I'd say we have a decent chance at breaking the school record on this one; we'd have to run an average of about 2:03 a piece. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
Thu, 23 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Mar 22, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-22-2017.html
AM over 45:01; 7:09 pace; 6x quick striders

Only got the one run in today. I'm at least glad I was thinking enough to do the longer run in the morning, knowing that I would be busy after school with choir stuff. Tomorrow will be a better day though.
Wed, 22 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Mar 21, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-21-2017.html
AM over 13:09; 6:52 pace- pre weights DI loop

PM over 59:39; 7:20ish pace; track workout

Tough, but awesome day for running. Coach moved the workout up a day. I'm not sure why, but I'm sure it has something to do with the meet this weekend. Anyway, the workout was 15 min. warm with last 5 min. at easy tempo. We then jumped into 4x 1200m w/ equal recovery at CV. This was a really tough workout, I'd say, for everyone involved. But championships don't come easily. My group hit each split really well. I think we only had one lap that we got 1:28, but that's just at the slower end of our range. The rest were either right on, or even a few seconds quick. Really proud of my team today. let's go kick some butt this weekend. #wearbrownpantsonfriday

Tue, 21 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Mar 20, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-20-2017.html
AM over 1:21:46; 7:40ish pace; 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 2 min pickups w/5 min recovery

PM over 24:26; 7:33 pace

It was a really tough day for running. The initial reason was that I had choir at 6:45 this morning, so Dallen, Xander and I had to meet at 4:50 and do the first half of our run before anyone else. The other reason was on the second half of the morning run, as I started the 3 minute pickup, I started to get a rare side-ache. It just kept flaring throughout the duration of the second half. That would explain the slow pace. It's all good though. It's runs like these that make me appreciate when I'm feeling really good. Also, my newest New Balance test shoes got here today, and they're actually pretty sweet. I'll have to share how I feel about them as I actually get to using them.
Mon, 20 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Sun, Mar 19, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-19-2017.html Sun, 19 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Mar 18, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-18-2017.html
AM over 1:06:01; 7:20 pace

Good end to a tough, but solid week with some serious miles. Did a reverse Parkway loop with Carson, Dallen, Xander and Mikey. Amazing weather all this week, and I'm hoping it stays like this for the PV Invitational next weekend. Super stoked for that. Also, Coach was very right in his statement that getting in all the runs this week would be very important. I feel like it kind of set me on a new, even better path by doing all the runs this week. Can't wait to see this work pay off.
Sat, 18 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Mar 17, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-17-2017.html
AM over 57:38; 6:57 pace; hill workout

PM over 30:01; 7:34 pace

Took it this morning with Carson and Jose over to the old man hills. 5x 60 sec reps and 1x 85 sec w/ 1 min recovery between rep 3 and 4. Did well on all of them except I struggled the last 15 or so seconds of the 85 sec rep. Took the afternoon run with the same group, but took it a bit more chill than any of the other runs this week. Had a good conversation with Carson on the morning run about the upcoming XC season and it got me super pumped. I think we're gonna take state.
Fri, 17 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Mar 16, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-16-2017.html
AM over 44:22; 7:57 pace

PM over 15:38; 6:33 pace

The chill day for running this week. Went and did a trail this morning with the boys and just ran around my house tonight. Did both of the runs in my newly acquired Zante v3's and they performed well, just like all the other Zantes I've owned. If I ever go pro, I want New Balance to sponsor me.
Thu, 16 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Mar 15, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-15-2017.html
AM over 1:01:15; 7:25ish pace; track workout; 4x quick striders after

PM over 35:00; 8:12 pace

Really, really tough workout this morning (last 3 workouts for me have been in the morning, so go figure.) 4x 1000m then 400m and 600m, all at CV, all w/equal recovery. Honestly, I started this workout a little too quick. I had to kind of push through, especially the last 1000m. Afternoon, I took it from my house up to the peak of Snobe Kibe, but I underestimated the distance, so I went 5 minutes over. Overall, good day running like always.
Wed, 15 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Mar 14, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-14-2017.html
AM over 50:16; 7:05 pace

PM over 29:57; 6:40 pace

Both runs were quick today. Pretty much the same morning group as yesterday and took the afternoon run by myself. Looking forward to the workout tomorrow.
Tue, 14 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Mar 13, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-13-2017.html
AM over 1:27:18; 7:15 pace; 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 2 min pickups w/equal recovery

Nice long run with Carson, Alex, Grant, Dallen, Xander and Mikey. Started at the high school like always and made a 12 mile loop down Telegraph St., dropped into Hell Hole, got onto the Dam Rd., and made our way back on Sandia Rd. Nice start to a crucial week.
Mon, 13 Mar 2017 06:00:00 Sun, Mar 12, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-12-2017.html Sun, 12 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Mar 11, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-11-2017.html
SC Invite Day 2

Even better day than yesterday! Congrats to my boi Carson for the State Qual in the 3200 m. As for my events, I did better than I had anticipated. Took 3rd in the 800 m behind my other boi Logan, coming in with a major PR of 2:05:22. This race was a huge eye opener for me on what I'm capable of. it just gave me that much more confidence that I can reach my goal of State Qualifying. Sooo pumped for the rest of the season. Mitch, Dallen, Logan and I then ran the last event of the day, the 4x400 m. We did alright coming in a pretty distant 4th. We were in 3rd going after both mine and Mitch's legs, but, not to bag on Dallen, lost our medal spot during his leg. I'd say he just started it a bit too slow. That's alright though; he knows he's a distance beast. Overall, dope first meet.
Sat, 11 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Mar 10, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-10-2017.html
AM over 24:36; 7:18 pace- usual morning route

PM over 29:55; 7:30ish pace; SC invite Day 1

Awesome day for me! Had a chill day knowing that I just needed to run the 400 m. I honestly had mixed emotions about what to expect from this race; it was after all my first high school track race. I was marked as about the 4th fastest in my heat with the top guy, my unknown cousin from Enterprise Chandler Staheli, being at about 52 seconds. When the gun sounded, I just ran and didn't hold anything back. I was in second going around the last turn and expecting to see someone come by on my left, but when there was no one, I just figured I'd go beat the guy in front of me. So I did. Won my heat with a 55.15 and missed the finals by 3 spots. Overall, I was very pleased with the results.
Fri, 10 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Mar 09, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-09-2017.html
AM over 14:05; 7:17 pace- pre weights DI loop

PM over 45:07; 7:02 pace

Good, quick day, especially our afternoon run. Took an adventurous route through all the sections of Green Springs and looped back to the High School. Good way to get ready for the SC invite tomorrow.
Thu, 09 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Mar 08, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-08-2017.html
AM over 59:45; 7:15ish pace; track workout; 4x quicker striders

PM over 24:07; 7:30 pace

Sick morning workout under the lights! All at CV, 2x 1200 m w/ equal recovery, then 2 sets of 2x 400 m and 600 m w/equal recovery. We then did some verified striders that were only 80 m, but faster, at like 800 pace. Afternoon we took a chill 25 through Marlar's breeding grounds.
Wed, 08 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Mar 07, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-07-2017.html
AM over 14:05; 7:20 pace- pre weights DI loop

PM over 49:37; 7:32 pace

Another nice, chill run before our early workout tomorrow. Took it under the new underpass and up through middleton. I had my doubts, but Coach stuck with us today! (I'm just giving him a hard time. @Lil'D) No car accidents today.
Tue, 07 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Mar 06, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-06-2017.html
AM over 1:21:02; 7:15 pace; 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 2 min pickups- solid, morning long run with the bros down Red Cliffs Drive and on to the river trail.

PM over 24:21; 7:01 pace

Really clutch day, running wise, with two pretty quick runs. Afternoon we took it down Red Cliffs Drive for an easy 25. On our way back, we witnessed an epic car accident! Some cars were waiting at the light on Red Cliffs and Mall Drive, when this white Honda came up to the light and smashed into the back of this truck, barely hitting the brakes. Everyone was okay, but we were all right there the moment it happened. The police had Carson and Logan give witness statements. Pretty beast day overall.
Mon, 06 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Sun, Mar 05, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-05-2017.html Sun, 05 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Mar 04, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-04-2017.html
over 1:20:00; 6:50 ish pace; tempo workout

Have Preference today, so Julien, Carson, Mikey and I took it early this morning. Ran to top of Green Springs and flipped for 45 warmup. We then had a 20 min. progressive tempo, starting at easy tempo then working up to usual tempo pace. Well Mikey and I took it pretty quick with 6:23, 6:27 and 6:16 splits; We were supposed to end at 6:30 pace. I honestly never felt very good or got into a groove during this run. I had some pretty bad abdominal pain about 30 minutes after the run. Tomorrow will be a nice recovery day, that's for sure.
Sat, 04 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Mar 03, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-03-2017.html
AM over 24:52; 7:13 pace- usual morning route

PM over 49:41; 7:20 pace

Chill run with a little quicker pace. It looks like it came straight out of d-hills.
Fri, 03 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Mar 02, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-02-2017.html
AM over 14:24; 7:27 pace- post weights DI loop

PM over 59:59; 7:20ish pace; small track workout

Big day for me to see where I'd be starting from in the 800m. Ended up with a 2:09.44 and I'm on the edge about it. It's good to know I still have a lot to learn about it, but the one thing that I did learn from my first 800m is that it's hell, both on the mind and body. Julien surprised me and I'm guessing a lot of people in winning the 1500m. His kick was all out and I know he's gonna be surprising more and more people throughout the season. We followed the workout with 2x 800m at CV w/ equal recovery. Great day to be a Panther!
Thu, 02 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Wed, Mar 01, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-01-2017.html
AM over 25:36; 7:36 pace- usual morning route

PM over 25:00; 7:30ish pace; PV Decathlon day 3

We did the last two events today: javelin and 300 m hurdles. Didn't know what to expect in the hurdles, but I've always been confident in my jumping abilities. Rolled out a decent 47.01 and threw a 49' 9" in the jav. Overall, I'm satisfied with my decathlon results. Distance crew has a time trial either tomorrow or Friday, but I'd say its more likely to be tomorrow. I'll be running the 800 m and I'm stoked to see what I can pull out.
Wed, 01 Mar 2017 07:00:00 Tue, Feb 28, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-02-28-2017.html
AM over 13:55; 7:27 pace- post weights DI loop

PM over 28:53; 8:00ish pace; PV Decathlon day 2

Took the ACT and was glad to get out to practice to shake the test off. I also learned today that the decathlon is not called the Panther Relays, so I'll fix that on yesterday's post. Today's events were 400 m, high jump and discus. I had mixed emotions going into the 400 because my legs weren't feeling 100%, but I was still excited to run my first one ever and see where I'd be working from throughout the season. I am VERY pleased with my time, 56.73, and it gave me a lot of confidence for working the time down to SQ 51.36. The other two events were alright, jumping 4' 8" and throwing 52' 5". Maybe I'll surprise myself with the hurdles tomorrow.
Tue, 28 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Mon, Feb 27, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-02-27-2017.html
AM over 24:52; 7:25 pace- usual morning route

PM over 27:49; 7:37 pace; PV Decathlon day 1

100 m, long jump and shotput today. Not a great time in the 100 m, but other two events I did better than I thought I would. 16' 5" in the long jump and 25' 3" in the shot. Might have to give the long jump some work throughtout the season.
Mon, 27 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Sun, Feb 26, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-02-26-2017.html Sun, 26 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Sat, Feb 25, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-02-25-2017.html
over 1:09:13; 6:30ish pace all together

Good day to run! Huge props to all my bros who killed it in the half; I'm definitely going to take a wing at it next year. Had a really good race in the 5K with a 17:49. I'd never run the course before, and it was pretty quick. Scottie and Brian had good races as well. They're gonna do some big things for PV. After, just did a few loops around my neighborhood. I worked in the 1, 2, 1 set of pickups in, figuring the race pretty much equated to the 3, 1, 3 set. Finally, congrats to my Dad for a 1:53 in the half. Overall awesome day. I'm now off to have some artist draw me in a tuxedo. Seems legit.
Sat, 25 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Fri, Feb 24, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-02-24-2017.html
AM over 24:50; 7:27 pace- usual moring route, but quite a bit colder than usual.

PM over 36:41; 7:36 pace; 6x striders

Chill, chilly run through the neighborhoods around the high school. It was chill today instead of a workout because a bunch of the guys and girls are running the half tomorrow. I'm doing the 5k, so I'll have a little bit of a workout tomorrow.
Fri, 24 Feb 2017 07:00:00 Thu, Feb 23, 2017 http://Colton.fastrunningblog.com/blog-02-23-2017.html
AM over 14:11; 7:22 pace- post weights DI loop

PM over 50:03; 7:32 pace

Actually took the first half of this run indoors, just running through the halls of the high school; there were about 8 or 9 of us that did this because we're quite wimpy when it comes to cold weather. Then we just ran around the high school area for the last 25 minutes.
Thu, 23 Feb 2017 07:00:00
