PRACTICE STARTS TOMORROW!!!!!! Can't believe it's finally here!!! This past week has been tough because I've just wanted to put down some miles! But I know there will be plenty of time for that this summer. I want to post tonight just to get my personal and team goals written down. This season, I will personally reach these goals:

- Break 11 minutes at the Time Trial on July 25 or 26

- Be consistent point-scorer for the Varsity squad

- Get the plate for my leg at the Desert Relays

- Break 17 minutes within first 3 3 mile races

- Blog every day (even Sundays to review past week and set goals for coming week)

- Hold my teamates accountable (if any of them are reading this, PLEASE do the same for me)

More importantly, as a team, we will reach these goals:

- Beat the Hellians more than they beat us

- Win Desert Relays

- 2017 Utah XC 4A State Champs

- Qualify for Nike Cross Nationals in December

- Finish top-25 nationally

I cannot wait to put in some hard work this season and see the rewards of embracing pain. I know my team will do amazing things this year if we trust Coach, each other, and ourselves. Let's get it done

Couldn't sleep last night because I was so excited for practice! We took it past Coach's street and up by Maverik. It was a quality run, but I definitely felt the two-week break. I'm sure it'll be back before I know it. There's a lot of new people to meet, so I'm gonna make that a priority this week.

It's crazy the difference just one day made! I felt wayyy better than yesterday and it was only about 2 or 3 secs slower per mile. It was a half road, half barefoot on grass run. The grass was soaked and it felt really good on my feet. Today was the first day of Kids' Club and it went as expected: eh. I've got the 5-6 boys. There are a surprising number of them that are home-schooled. Overall, decent day.

We took it out on the dirt/sand road that goes up to the elephant arch trail; just 20 out and back. I started to feel something at about 15 minutes, but I just told myself in my head that I was good. And that's all it took! I felt really good the rest of the run. Coach took a fall on the way back. He looked like a freaking zombie. After practice, we went to Papa Holt's neighbor's house and helped move a jacuzzi. It was definitely the heaviest thing I've ever been a part of lifting. Somehow, we got the job done. Overall, good day.

Took a loop east on telegraph and up by Maverik. We went over minutes, but it was still a really good run. Coach Robs said I look like this guy named Gumby, so I looked him up. Apparently it's some claymation character. Funny, Robs

Really good run today! We met at Sullivan Park and did the roller coaster trail along the south base of Shnobe Kibe. I had actually never done it before, but it was pretty fun. About a minute into it, it takes a moment of commitment to get through the constant uphill/downhill change. Once I made the commitment, it got easier. This was also pretty much the first fast run of the season. We finished the run with 4 sub 7 miles. It was good to stick it out with the Boys.

Most of us took the ACT this morning, so we did a night run up in Green Springs. It was a really good run with a quality finish. Luckily, I stopped us before we got to far into the powerline trail. Don't know whose idea it was to do a trail run in the dark (but it was Corbin.) After the run, we just talked for like 45 minutes. Gotta love the bros.

Previous week

Really good runs for the first week. There were a few I had to work for, but those are the best ones. I really liked Friday's trail/fast run with the boys. Dylan showed promise with his blogging, so I hope he keeps that up. No injuries or anything to worry about

This week

Weights starts this week on Tuesday. I'm gonna try to record it all on the blog. Minutes jump this week. The middle portion of runs could get me; anyone can start or finish a run. I'll focus on breathing and being relaxed during the middle part of runs, especially the 70 minutes on Wednesday. Should be good!

In all honesty, I don't consider today's run to be a great one for me. We had 20 warm, then 25 at 1 min behind 5K pace on the dirt mile. I struggled with it. We had a big pack of guys for 2 miles then we started the fall off. Starting the third lap, I got a bunch of those dry throw-up things going on. I stopped for about a minute to let them stop, then took it the rest of the mile and finished at 20 minutes of the proposed pace. It was alright, but I know I can do more. Next tempo, I'm in there for the long haul.

I thought the long run this week was today, but I was apparently mistaken. We took an out and back along the road to the dinosaur tracks trail. Everything went well, and it's always awesome when, for about two minutes, I really struggle. It makes me commit, which is something everyone needs work on. I actually don't have a long run tomorrow because I have a half marathon this weekend. Coach, if you read this, comment how many minutes I should run tomorrow. If not, I'm gonna take it 35-40.

We're up in Ephraim at youth conference, so we got a group and ran this morning; there were a few D-hills guys. I didn't go the full 60 just because I'm gonna be going wayyyy over tomorrow. It felt really nice this morning in the brisk, morning air. Really excited for tomorrow. Not gonna kill myself, but I'm gonna try to get a decent time. It's really pretty country over here.

This was the hardest thing I've ever done. I would highly recommend this race for someone that wants a challenge. I would definitely equate it to a regular, road marathon. I was pretty satisfied with the time because of how hard the race was. I honestly felt pretty good for most of the race, but around mile 11, I was ready to be done. It had a ton of uphill. I'm feeling pretty crappy at the moment, but I'll get better. Overall, decent day.

Previous week

More minutes with a killer race on Saturday. I'm definitely seeing the drastic difference of myself at this point last year; I'm ready. Weights went well and it should be better this week.

This week

Might have to recover from the race by taking the lower end of the minutes on Monday, but I'll just see how I feel. On Wednesday, I'm gonna push myself up with Julien and Carson on the hills. Gonna be good

Not a good run today. While I was kind of recovering from Saturday, I still wasn't all in. Only went 60 and it wasn't a great 60. I had a side ache for the last 20 minutes or so. Overall, I've gotta have a better week.

Once again, I went to practice thinking the workout was today, but it's actually tomorrow. Oh well. We went out to the turtle road and turned left after a while and went through the desert into Green Springs. Then we just went down onto Telegraph and made our way back to the school. I felt really good today, and the second half was better than the beginning, even though it wasn't a very fast run. It's all good though. Tomorrow will be really good.

Today was a really good run. Did some hill work on the grapevine hill. I set a goal this week to push through these, and I think I accomplished that. They didn't, by any means, feel easy, but I had to dig deep a little on the 85 second rep. It was a good pack for the duration of the workout. I'm proud of my boys.

Ran with Mikey and Carson out and back on the road the goes into the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. I struggled quite a bit the first half, but this run was about the negative split. I handled the second half a lot better, so that's a positive.

Eh. I did meet my goal of a good mid-week workout, but I struggled throughout the week. The team, however, is very strong. I need to step up to meet them.

This week

Consistency, consistency, consistency! Every run is gonna be solid and I will commit to the longer minutes. Lifting is going well, so nothing needs to change there for a while. Also, I struggled with the last tempo, so I need to fix things on this one. Perhaps the wind will cooperate on this one.

While there were definitely a few rough spots, I would consider this run a success. I truly had to dig deep in order to stick with my guys. Long runs have never been my strength, but I showed strength in the pickups and during the middle minutes. I still have a long way to go this summer.

First double of the season. We just did a post-weights DI loop in the afternoon. Halfway through the run, some guy was on his phone while pulling out of a parking lot and we had to get his attention. Carson threw his hands up and yelled at him to get off his phone. They then exchanged birds and it all was quite a situation. Good job Cars. The morning was just a usual Tuesday with the half road, half barefoot grass. We didn't play ultimate today. Today was race day at kids' club, and the kid I ran with threw up after he finished. He still pushed himself all the way, making me a very proud coach.

This was a really, really good hilly run for me. I don't there was a single negative to this run: I pushed the ups, had good posture, and had just the right amount of pain. We took this one in the desert immediately adjacent to the freeway and hooked on the the Dino Tracks trail, as well as the upper portion of the prospector loop. Overall, super dope run. Now, I just have to prepare mentally for the tempo tomorrow.

Today was a pretty good run. Season's second tempo up on the dirt mile. I ran a lot better than the first one. I was really strong for the first 3 miles, but about halfway onto the 4th, I started getting these dry throw up things that I've gotten recently. It was at about 21 minutes, so I caught up with myself, cut across to meet up with the guys, and finished the rest of that mile. I've still got work to do, but I think it was a successful tempo. The afternoon, post weights run was really hot. I got really sweaty. Overall, good day.

We met up at Coral Canyon and ran a bit of the half marathon course in reverse. Nothing too crazy, but it was a stronger second half which was nice. I'm heading up this afternoon to a family reunion. It's by Kolob reservoir, so tomorrow's long run will be at some better altitude. Should be good.
